Biography

Ann Unknown was the wife of Henry Collins of Lynn, Massachusetts.[1] Her exact origins and parentage are unknown. However, her first three children were born in Stepney, Middlesex, England, so it is not unlikely that she was born and married somewhere nearby.
It has been speculated, and often found online, that she is Ann Riall. This is based on 1. Henry and Ann named a daughter Riall 2. Isaac Riall of Dorchester, Massachusetts married a daughter of Thomas Tolman while two of Henry's children also married children of Thomas Tolman (showing a connection between the families) and 3. William Riall of Salem, Massachusetts is also thought to have come from Stepney. Though certainly a good possibility, her LNAB remains unproven.

Immigration

Ann immigrated with her husband and three children on the Abigail in 1635.[2]

Married: Henry Collins about 1627 based on the baptism of their first known child in August 1628. Their first three children were baptized in Stepney, Middlesex, England. Six more children were born in New England.

Research Notes

It has been said, and was previously on this profile, that she was the daughter of Edmond Riall of Witton, Norfolk, England and his wife Ann Green. No evidence has been found to support. The identification would seem very unlikely since her supposed father was from Witton, Norfolk.

Thank you for supporting WikiTree.

This is a proposal to sever her link to parents, currently Edmond Riall (abt.1569-abt.1630) and Ann (Green) Riall (1583-1624), and have Ann's profile recreated as Ann Unknown.

No reliable source is shown to support the LNAB "Riall" or variant and the now linked parents profiles are unsourced.

Robert Charles Anderson, et al., called her Ann ____. See Robert Charles Anderson, George F. Sanborn, Jr., and Melinde Lutz Sanborn, The Great Migration, Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635, Volume II, C-F (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2001), 164-169 (Henry Collins) at 168; digital images by subscription, AmericanAncestors.

Thank you again for supporting WikiTree.--Gene

Tealby-1 and Riall-2 are not ready to be merged because: Need further information on Tealby-1, First name and date of death are the only facts that match.

Tealby-1 and Riall-2 appear to represent the same person because: At least one source for Riall-2 (Collins) gives her last name as "of Tealby." The first name, place and date of death are the same, and there is no conflict otherwise, as Tealby-1 has almost no information with it. No one really knows if Riall-2's maiden name was Riall, so there is a small possibility that the last name was really Tealby. I would like to know where the Tealby-1 source came from, for there seems to be scarcely any connection between them, except as cited.

My unfortunately undocumented notes give alternative spellings of her last name as "Royal" or "Ryal".
