Notes

Note NI1138Uncle Lester (Ellen's brother and father of Harlow) was superintendent of Baptist Sunday School at Greenville where GOS belonged. Uncle Lester was kicked by a mule when a young man destroying his right eye. So he was refused when he volunteered for Civil War. All of Uncle Lester's business ventures were failures. So with his sons Otto and Harlow. 1

During war Uncle Lester bought a lot of cattle on understanding he was to resell to Federal Gov't and deliver at St. Louis. He took them to St. Louis for the purpose but the Rebels captured them and he was busted and was for ever after. Uncle Lester only had one eye. He was kicked by a mule when he was a young man. 1

Uncle Lester Rice went to Grand Island direct from Greenville. When they built the panorama for Charlie Scarp, GOS had to send to some other town for his uncle Lester to come and help him do the job.
