James M Rice, son of Robert Rice Sr. and Martha Beavers

BIRTH AND DEATH:

Birth: about 1814 in Tennessee, per census

Death: sometime between 1870 & 1880 census

Death average = 1875, and probably died in Illinois

EVIDENCE OF PARENTS:

The identity of James is GUESS, based on his name/age/birthplace/location.

The land transaction for James (son of Robert) shows middle initial "M"

The census for James, has correct middle initial, birthplace, approximate age

James' brothers (Robert Jr. and William) also lived in Itawamba Co., MS in 1850

James' brothers (Robert Jr. and William) were also born in Tennessee

MARRIAGE:

James had a marriage to Louisa (maiden name unknown).

They married on/before 1836, based on birth of child

I assume they married in TN, based on birthplace & child's birthplace

Some family trees show Louisa's maiden name as MURRAY.

I am not convinced of maiden name Murray.

The Murray couple on 1880 census, do not appear to be related

LAND TRANSACTIONS

These land transactions imply Robert Sr. had 7 children (i.e. 1/7 interest).

It also implies that 4 of the 7 children are William, Robert Jr., James, Joseph

Elizabeth Thomas might be Robert Sr’s daughter, or maybe granddaughter

Vol 2, Book A, p 630, on April 15, 1844, Robert Rice, Jr. sold his 1/7th interest (59 A) previously owned by Robert Rice, Sr.

Vol 2, Book C, p 25, in this same county, on August 26, 1847, James M. Rice sold his 1/7th interest part of a tract on Fountain Creek, being 59 acres.

Vol 2, Book K, P 578, Maury Co TN Deed Abstracts: Joseph B. Rice of Blount Co AL, sold to C.A. Tomlinson of Maury Co, TN, his 1/7th interest in land on the head waters of Fountain Creek, Dist 6, Dated January 3, 1857, registered June 10, 1857.

Vol 2, Book M, p 85, on Nov 27, 1838, Robert Rice of Pontotoc Co MS acted as attorney in fact for Martin Thomas and Elizabeth Thomas, his wife, and conveyed 1/7th interest of land on headwaters of Fountain Creek, Dist 6, estate of Robert Rice, Sr., dec.
