Biography

  • Elizabeth was born in 1715. She was the daughter of James Rice and Margaret House.
  • Elizabeth Rice was a cousin to Benjamin Rice, father of John Holt Rice.

The above 2 statements are incorrect and based on an old story by an old man who does not actually tell who Elizabeth;s father is. We know its not James Rice and Mrs Elizabeth House as they never married and in fact she was an old widow James was paid to assist. James apparently never married or had children. She is also not a daughter of David Rice as he has a daughter Elizabeth. His grandson David Rice identified his aunt Elizabeth and it is not this person.

[1] She passed away about 1774. [2]

Research Notes

  • Although the birth location is listed as Hanover County, this county was not formed until 1720. If the alternate birth date of 1720 is accurate, Hanover County is feasible. However, assuming birth was in the area that became Hanover County, the actual birth location would be New Kent County.

Rhys-146 and Rice-2479 appear to represent the same person because: clear duplicates

Sorry, I got my wives confused and posted a comment about the wrong wife, so I deleted it. The Hampden Sidney Biography for Drury Lacy states that William Lacy, a farmer of Chesterfield Co, married Elizabeth Rice, cousin to Benjamin Rice, father of John Holt Rice, but it does not give her father's name.

Regarding Elizabeth's parents - Is this a repudiation of the information in The William and Elliot Lacy families : of New Kent and Chesterfield counties, Virginia with forebearers and descendants, by Howard Elton Lacey & Hubert Wesley Lacey, (Family Search International), (https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/records/item/580184-the-william-and-elliott-lacy-families-of-new-kent-and-chesterfield-counties-virginia-with-forebearers-and-descendants)? Elisabeth's maiden name has been a misunderstanding of a letter written by a Lacy dependent. Beside James was a bachelor and had no children
Rice-14567 and Rice-2479 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, spouse, child

This appears to be the same person as Elizabeth Lacy (Rice-11203) but (Rice 2479) has different date for everthing and since mine was from an imported GED file, I can't determine which dates are correct. It appears to be the same person if we had a determination concerning all the dates.

Rice-11203 and Rice-2479 appear to represent the same person because: Same relationships.
Rice-2479 and Rice-7301 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth, spouse and son. I would question Rice-7301's dod making her live 109 years.
