Biography

Amelia (Rice) Rygate was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Amelia Elizabeth Mary Rice was born on January 27, 1898 in Canowindra, Colony of New South Wales, daughter of Albert Rice (1870–1933) and Emily Alice Marsden Clyburn (1873–1936).[1]

Amelia (25) married Gerald Blake Rygate (27) (born on February 24, 1895 in Grenfell, New South Wales, Australia; son of Dr Robert Edward Rygate and Mary Josephine (Blake) Rygate) on February 7, 1923 in Canowindra, New South Wales.[2]

RYGATE— RICE.
A VERY pretty wedding was solemnised at the local Roman Catholic Church on the 8th ult., when Miss Millie Rice, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert. Rice, "Marsden," was married to Gerald Blake, youngest son of the late Dr. Rygate, Grenfell. The Rev. Father Searson, assisted by the Very Rev. Father O'Kennedy, P.P., Cowra (a very old friend of the family), celebrated the Nuptial Mass, Miss Perry, Sydney, ably rendering Cooker's "Ave Maria." The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was charmingiy attired in a graceful gown of ivory and siiver brocaded satin, adorned with silver roses and orange blossoms, with court train of white tulle and silver tissure. The veil was arranged in mob cap fashion. She also wore a handsome diamond cluster brooch, the gift of the bridegroom. The bride's cousin, Miss Mary Judge (Greenethorpe) was chief bridesmaid, and wore a dainty, yet suitable, dress of maize beaded georgette, over satin, with black and gold picure hat to match. The three other bridesmaids, Misses Allie and Eugenie Clyburn (Canowindra) and Molly Brereton (of Sydney) wore chic dresses of white georgette over palest of pink crepe de chine. Each of the bridesmaids wore a gold bangle, and carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations, gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. Harold Rygate (Grenfell) was best man. The reception was held at the Strand Theatre, where the bride's parents entertained about 120 guests. Mrs. Bert Rice received her guests at the entrance of the theatre, and was charmingly attired in an elegant gown of mole satin morocain and black picture hat to tone. The presents, which included a number of cheques, were numerous, and were artistically arranged in the theatre. The bride's "going away" dress was one of blue morocain, trimmed with grey fur and beaded, with hat to match. Mr. Bob Rice, uncle of the bride, motored the happy couple to Orange, en route to Sydney and Kosciusko, where the honeymoon is being spent. Their future home will be at Gambarra. — Canowindra "Star."[3]
