Biography

born Prince Georges Co, MD or Orange, Virginia

Death

Death:
Date: 1812?1815
Place: McMinn, Tennessee, United States

Will of John Rice dated Sep 22, 1812 names wife Susannah, Milly Bartlett, son William ( son of my first wife); 2 grand children - Betsy and Esau Rice, children of my son John, (deceased). Names son Isaac Rice executor.

John Rice of Virginia, North Carolina, and Roane, Tennessee who died before April 1815 when his will was probated has been shown as Isaac or Isaac John Rice. That misinformation most likely came from records of his descendant Martha "Mattie Elizabeth Rice (John R. Howard) who wrote a biography of her family at the age of 18 that was informative and very interesting, but had a couple of flaws. She referred to her ancestor John as Isaac Rice. John Rice was not the same as man as Isaac. He had a brother named Isaac Rice who came from Rutherford, North Carolina to Roane Tennessee and lived near John. In Isaac's will he left his estate to his brothers and their children, indicating that he probably had no living direct descendants of his own. The name Isaac was passed down through his brother's children, including John who had a son named Isaac born 27 March 1771, a grandson, g-grandsons, and so on named Isaac. John and Isaac also had several other brothers, including a brother who for a time contested Isaac's will.

John was reportedly married 3 times. It's not known exactly which of his children belonged to each wife, but there's an indication that William (Miss Roberts), Hannah (Wm. Wallen), and Amy Rice (Mathew Wallen) were the children of Margery Wallen. It's believed that he was also possibly married to Elizabeth Crenshaw, and that his last wife was Susannah. The other known children were Sarah Rice (John Thompson), Nancy Rice (Joseph Mee), Millicent Rice (Joseph Bartlett), John Rice, Mary Rice (Benjamin Green), Isaac Rice (Sarah Senter and Martha Matlock), and Elizabeth Rice (James Thompson).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

If anyone wants to discuss the evidence I have suggesting who this John Rice is and his non-relation to Isaac Rice contact me and I can fill you in. I believe this John Rice connects back as a relative to Rice's Landing, Rices and is a separate line.

Currently reading Little, Melvin Weaver. Henry Rice (1717-1818), The Pioneer Tennessee Gristmiller and His Twelve Children. Arlington, Va., 1983. FHL Book 929.273 R362L. and this Isaac John Rice is not a son of Henry Rice. The John Rice b,1760 that you have as son of this Issac is actually the John Rice, son of Henry Rice. It mentions an Issac John Rice that moved to Roane, but so far no other details about him. other than he doesn't belong here. The FamilySearch tree that you are citing as a source, has a different father for Isaac, not Henry. He needs to be removed and place his son John, as son of Henry Rice. The John Rice-8064 is son of Henry and father of Sallie who married the outlaw Willie Harp. None of them related to this Isaac John Rice.
