Biography

The daughter of John Rice and Mary A. Minard, Maryann Elizabeth Rice was born on 15 Sep 1886 in Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. ^{[1] [2] [3]} She initially went by 'Elizabeth' and then changed to 'Mary' after she remarried.

Elizabeth was married at least twice and had at least eleven children, two of whom succumbed to death as infants.

The young Crain family moved from Delaware, Ohio to 1745 Columbus Avenue, Springfield, Ohio in 1912. ^[4]

In 1937, a lawsuit was filed against Elizabeth Crain McDaniel by The Merchants and Mechanics Federal Savings and Loan Association for foreclosure on the Crain home located at 2149 Larch Street, Springfield, Clark County, Ohio. ^[5] Edwin B. Arthur was appointed by the Clark County (Ohio) Common Pleas Court as guardian of Phyllis Jane (Crain) Wright named as Phylis Crain Wright in the suit, Betty Marie Crain named as Elizabeth Crain in the suit, Donna Ellen Crain named as Donald Crain in the suit, Eunice Erdine (Crain) named as Eunice Crain in the suit, and Dorothy Mae Crain named as Dorothy Crain in the suit. ^[6] The home was auctioned by the Clark County (Ohio) Sheriff on 11 Dec 1937. ^{[7] [8]}

In 1942, Mary and Willard were residing at 22 East Columbia, Springfield, Clark County, Ohio. ^[9]

Mary passed away at her home in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio on 22 Nov 1947 at age 61. ^[10] She is interred in Mill Creek Cemetery located in Scioto Township, Delaware County, Ohio. ^[11]

(2) Willard Clarence McDaniel (1901-1965), married after May 1930 yet before Sep 1937. ^{[15] [16]} He was approximately 15 years younger than Mary, which is presumably a reason why Mary's minor-aged children were residing at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Home for the Aged and Children in 1937. ^[17]

It is possible that they were married in Tennessee, giving Willard was born in Tennessee ^[18] and Mary was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. ^[19]
