Rachel Rich, daughter of Ebenezer Rich and Ruth Purin(g)ton Paine, was born on 24 September 1768 in Truro, Barnstable county, Massachusetts Bay Province. ^[1]

Rachel Rich is a 3rd Cousin once removed to her mother-in-law Abigail Winslow. ^[2]

Rachel was wed to Edward Clifford (b. 1766) on 23 December 1791 in Greenwich, Fairfield county, Connecticut, or on 29 December 1791, or 29 February 1792, in Greenwich, Hampshire, Massachusetts. ^[3] They had at least four children:
