Biography

Samuel Rich was born about 1683/1684 in Wenham, Essex County, Massachusetts. Samuel is the son of Nicholas Rich and Abigail Green[1]. Samuel died prior to April 1, 1729 at Sutton, Worcester County, MA.

Samuel was a Carpenter by occupation and served as a Constable for the Town of Mendon.

Samuel marries first to Hannah Marsh on November 29, 1705, in Salem, MA. Hannah was born on September 18, 1683, in Salem, MA. Hannah was the daughter of Samuel Marsh and Priscilla Tompkins. Hannah died on March 30, 1716 in Mendon, Worcester, Massachusetts.[1][2]

Samuel marries a second time on May 16, 1717 in Salem, Essex County, MA, to Elizabeth Tompkins, daughter of John Tompkins and Rebecca Knight.[2] Elizabeth was born on March 14, 1680/1681 in Salem, Essex County, MA. Elizabeth died after 1731.

Children of Samuel Rich and Elizabeth Tompkins are:

1. Elisha Rich was born February 23, 1718 at Mendon, Worcester, Massachusetts.

2. Israel Rich was born unknown and died about 1748/1749.

3. Nathaniel Rich was born about 1720 at Mendon, Worcester, Massachusetts and died on August 19, 1740.

Benjamin Marsh was appointed guardian of Nathaniel Rich, age 20 years, son of Samuel Rich, late of Sutton, MA. In 1748 in the disbursement of father's estate, he was referred to as "deceased."
