Biography

Raymond was born on March 15, 1892 in Richard, La. . He is the son of Theogene Richard and Virginia Francois. [1]

Raymond was the husband of Adelina (Blanchard), whom he married on July 3, 1911. Together they had 5 children - 3 sons - Theogene, Evans, and Louis; and 2 daughters - Rita (Richard) Hebert and Jane (Richard) Davidson.

Raymond and Adelina purchased approximately 871 acres of farmland near the small community of Pine Island and produced rice, corn, beans and cotton. He also raised hogs and cattle. He grew his own popcorn and grew berries and sugarcane to make his own syrup.

Many Saturday mornings a different neighbor would have an old time Boucherie ( a hog butcher ), where everyone would help and get a portion of the hog butchered. Raymond enjoyed this and usually had pork steak for breakfast. He also would make bacon and sausages.

He always wore a light grey Stetson hat that no one could touch. He was slightly superstitions but loved to tell ghost stories and bible stories. He liked new cars and usually drove a Dodge, but later started buying Pontiacs.

When he retired from farming in 1947, they moved into Welsh, where they had a home on S. Littell St. To most of his grandkids, he was known as PaPop and Adelina was MaMom!

He was a good business man and was on the Drainage committee. He worked very hard to correct the bad drainage. He died on December 14, 1956 and was buried in Welsh, La.
