Jean Baptiste Richard was born April 10, 1718. He was baptized the same day at Port-Royal, Acadie. His godparents were Charles Dupuis and Marguerite Bourgeois. [1][2]
He married Françoise Girouard, daughter of Guillaume Girouard and Marie Bernard, on November 4, 1745. [3][4]
"Having moved to Memramcook after their marriage, Jani and Françoise escaped the deportation of 1755. They were in Caraquet during the raid of Mackenzie in 1761. Brought back prisoners at Fort Cumberland[6], Jani and his family then went to Memramcook and finally to Richibouctou-Village, where he died on March 19, 1796."[7]

"Jean-Baptiste dit Jani Richard, naquit à Port-Royal le 10 avril 1718. Il épousa dans sa paroisse natale, le 4 novembre 1745, Françoise Girouard, fille de Guillaume Girouard et de Marie Bernard. Étant déménagé à Memramcook après leur mariage, Jani et Françoise ont échappé à la déportation de 1755. Ils se retrouvaient à Caraquet lors de la razzia de Mackenzie en 1761. Ramenés prisonniers au fort Cumberland, Jani et sa famille passèrent ensuite à Memramcook et enfin à Richibouctou-Village. Jani s'éteignit en ce dernier endroit le 19 mars 1796."[7]
