Laurence was the son of Lloyd Everett Richards, Sr. and Mary Leah Bachelder.

He married Janice R. Storer in Weld, Maine on 28 Jul 1954.

He married Audrey G Greenman on 30 Jun 1984 in Maine.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, enlisting on 15 Feb 1952 and was discharged 27 Jun 1956.
