Biography

Although, I have found no information on children of Lewis Richards, it appears he adopted his stepdaughter: Anne Pridham.


Lewis paid a penalty, but what he had done wrong isn't clear.

THIS INDENTURE made the first day of October in the yeare 1684 Witnesseth that LEWIS RICHARDS, Planter, as Marrying the Relict of CHRISTOPHER PRIDDUM, in the County of Rappa: in the Parish of Farnham doth for divers good causes &

  • BRIDGET RICHARDS my Wife have sold unto THOS: WALKER, Plants., of the aforesaid County & Parish Seventy acres of land being in the Parish aforesd. the wch: land belonging to my Wife, BRIDGET RICHARDS, Father Capt. GEORGE BRYER deced, belonging to the Pattent of Seven hundred and fifty acres of land wch land that my predecessor, CHRISTOPHR: PREDDUM, exchanged with THOMAS GOOSE deced, and these seventy acres joyning to the line of WILLIAM LANDMAN and so running alonge by the line of the land which did go the land wch. did belong to Mr. RICHARD LAWSONs land wch: he formerly bought of Mr. HENRY CLARKE deced and as I the sd
  • LEWIS RICHARDS & THOMAS WALKER hath agreed & made choise of and I the sd LEWIS RICHARDS & BRIDGETT my Wife doth binde ourselves that the sd THOMAS WALKER shall peaceably enjoy for ever all rights priviledges as our Sovereigne Lord King Charles the second by his Pattent granted to us and

THE DEPOSITION: BRIDGETT EALE & ANN HASLE saith that being at the house of LEWIS RICHARDS when his Wife lay a dying the Woman by words & actions as far as yr: Deponant coud judge was very desirous to have land confirmed sold by her Husband to THOMAS WALKER and his heires forever and to that purpose would have a letter of Attorney made & by her signed for confirmacon of the sd Land & further yor: deponant sayth not; Sworn to before me this 4th of May 1684 The marke of BRIDGETT EALE; WM. LOYD The marke of ANN HASLE [2]


Att a Court held for Rappa: County May 6th 1685 - Ordered that ANN PRIDUM, Daughter of BRIDGET RICHARDS, do live wth: Mrs. SISSON untill she shall arive to the age of Eighteen years and if the sd Mrs. SISSON shall hapen to die before the sd AN shall attaine the age aforesd. then to dispose of the sd ANNs remaining time as she shall think fitt (all wchf being according to the sd BRIDGETT RICHARDS last Will); It is also further ordered that the sd Mrs. SISSON find the sd AN convenient dyet & apparrell during the terme aforesd. Att a Court held for Rappa: County May 6th 1685 - Ordered that CHRISTOPHER PRIDUM, Son of BRIDGETT RICHARDS, do live with Mrs. EALE untill he shall attaine the age of seventeen years, and if the sd Mrs. EALE shall happen to die before he arive to the age aforesd. that then she may dispose of the remainder of his time as she shall think fitt (all which being according to the last Will of the sd BRIDGETT RICHARDS) And it is further ordered that the sd Mrs. EALE provide the sd CHRISTR: PRIDUM convenient dyett and apparrell during the terme aforesd. [5] - 10 April, 1685; RICHARDS, BRIDGET, Recorded 19 May, 1685. In the Name of God Amen. I Bridgett Richards being sick of Body but of perfect Sence & memory blessed be God do bequeath my body to the grave and My Soul to god that gave it mee [in] sure & Certaine hopes of Resurrection both Soul & body to Endless happiness through the Tender mercy of god by the only Merits of our blessed Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ.

Item I give unto my foure Children to them & theires all my Land to be Equally devided amongst them and this my desire is that my husband Lewis Richards should have his Life time on his now dwelling Plantacon and moreover my desire is that Mrs: Sisson shall keep my daughter Anne Pridum till she is Eighteen years of age and if she die before the Time is Expired for her to give it to Whom she will And also my desire is that Mrs Eale have my Son Christopher Pridham whilst he comes to the age of Seventeen years and if she dieth to dispose of him as she thinks good the Will of God be don.
