Biography

Josephus Richardson was born July 7, 1793. The names of his parents are unknown, but he has a strong connection to Jonathan Richardson, who died in Troy, Rensselaer County, NY. [1] After his death, his family was found in Troy, NY, and his children were listed as next of kin in a notice to settle the estate of Jonathan.

Josephus (also found as Josephas) was listed on the 1830 census in Halifax, Vermont. [2]

He married Euphemia Henderson about 1820. They made their home in Halifax where they had six children.

He died at age 38. He is buried in Halifax Center Cemetery in Halifax, Vermont, as Capt. Josephus Richardson. His gravestone shows a death date of January 20, 1831. [3]

There are two different deaths recorded in Vermont Vital Records. One matches his gravestone, Jan 20, 1831 [4] and the other was recorded as January 20, 1832. [5]
