Biography

Belva Richardson was born on 20 November 1885 in Nova Scotia, Canada. In the 1891 census Belva (age 6) was the daughter of Charles Richardson in Brooklyn, Queens, Nova Scotia, Canada.^[1] In the 1905 census Belva (age 20) was the sister of Basil Richardson in Bronx, New York, New York, United States.^[2] In the 1910 census Belva (age 25), Clerk, was a single lodger in Manhattan Ward 15, New York, New York, United States.^[3]

Belva applied for a passport on 18 January 1919 in Brooklyn, New York, with plans to live temporarily in France with her sons Rudolph, Winston, and Philip.^[4] Belva returned from Liverpool on the ship Megantic and arrived on 3 June 1919 in New York, New York.^[5] Belva sailed from Marseille, France, on the ship President Polk, arriving on 20 August 1928 in New York, New York.^[6] Belva departed England on 15 March 1947 on the Cunard White Star ship Queen Elizabeth bound for New York.^[7] In the 1950 census Belva (age 65) was the wife of James H Braxton in Brookfield, Fairfield, Connecticut, United States.^[8] Belva departed from New York, New York, on the ship De Grasse on 4 August 1951.^[9]

Belva died on 1 April 1964 in New Milford, Litchfield County, Connecticut. She was buried in Central Cemetery, Brookfield Center, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States.^[10]
