Tony Hadfield
He had a distinguished military career in North East India, starting as an "Ensign" in the Sylhet Light Infantry, rising to General Officer Commanding Assam District and then Major General. We was awarded CB, as reported in London Gazette 20th October 1863, for his exploits in the Bhutan War of early 1860s. His original regiment became 44th Battalion Gurkha Rifles in 1861, and this became 1st Battalion 8th Gurkha Rifles in 1903.

I have a photograph of General William Richardson with his staff, dressed in full Gurkha uniform, a copy of which is now in The Gurkha Museum.
