Event: Record Change. 08 AUG 1999.
Note H1250I was talking with a cousin today and she said that Granny told her that when she married Capt D...she thought she was going to live with him and be his daughter...she knew nothing about sex or having children when she married him. From the picture with the grown daughters standing behind them they look about her age . I can see where she thought that and she was very naive and a virgin. 1
Ethels daughter also told me that David had a middle name of Henry and the correct spelling for grannies name is Malissie Ann Richardson. 1
She has recorded David Henry was born in Lawrence County, OH on 111038. 1 has recorded that Grandma Malissie married Wm h. Branson in Lee Co, Ky She was 40 years old and had 4 children Celia, Canna, william H. (Bill) Branson, Jr. and Gercheon. 1
Grandma Malissie married Rev. Harvey Johnson (methodist minister in Lee Co Ky She was 54 years old. 1 Melissa's parents: Jim M. and Lucinda (Lynch) Richardson. 1
Faye Joy remembers Grandma Malissie saying about her parents was that her mother smoked a corn cob pipe which was quite common for women in that era in KY and that her father played the fiddle at circle dances. jim and Lucinda had 14 children, 7 had red hair and 7 had black hair. Grandma said she had Indian blood in her veins. 1
Quoted from Faye Joy "My first recollection of Grandma Malissie was her praying in bed each night. she couldn't kneel in prayer because of her arthritis and rheumatism. She would have down to earth talks with God like he was right there. She had a very mild easy going temperament. I remember cousins fighting over her, "Shes not your grandmother, she is mine..she is coming to live with me, not you. becasue she was so sweet and easy to get along with. She never meddled or criticized. 1
Grandma Malissie was a very strict mother. She did not allow card playing in her home because gambling often led to violence in those days, so card playing was not tolerated in her christian home. Oncy her son Joe and some friends were playing cards and Grandma camed home and caught them. she swooped the cards off the table and through them in the flaming fireplace. 1 never held a job, never lived alone, never rode a plane. 1
apparently, Grandma's parents were not Christians. They went to dances which she claimed were ungodly and the songs had immoral lyrics. She became a Christian after she married...no moking no drinking no chewing no dancing no card playing. Joe, Ethel and maybe Curt went to Christian school in St. Helens. KY. 1
