Biography

Baptized: 7 November 1596 in Westmill, Hertfordshire, England.[1]

John Richardson, son of Thomas, was mentioned in Thomas' will written March 4, 1630-1. Thus, John Richardson's death date is known to be after March 4, 1630-1, when he would have been ~34 years old.[1]

Research Notes

A John Richardson was shown in Charles E. Banks' book, Topographical Dictionary of 2885 English Emigrants to New England, which shows John was from Ratcliffe in Stepney Parish, in Middlesex.[2] Banks cites "Massachusetts Colony Records 2,86". It appears that John was in Massachusetts in 1644, where the court voided the marriage of John Richardson "late of Ratlife" to Elizabeth Frier, who was said to be living in England within 12 months. On the testimony of Nelson Hutchinson, the court voided John Richard's marriage to her.[3] It should be noted in the Banks source, John's "alleged brothers", namely Ezekiel, Samuel and Thomas Richardson, are shown emigrating from Hertfordshire, Westmill Parish, destined for Charlestown, Massachusetts, citing NEHGR 51:299(sic). [4] The NEHGR article discusses the emigration and wills of the three brothers, mentioning only John's birth information and nothing further about him.[1]

From the above research, it appears that the John Richardson in Massachusetts in 1644, who had at one time been married to Elizabeth Frier/Frye, was not from Hertfordshire, nor the son of Thomas Richardson.

Danielle, there are comments from over a year ago that have yet to be answered/addressed. I agree that two profiles are conflated. This likely occurred when a merge was done. It will be necessary to create a new profile, either one for the husband of Elizabeth Frye or else detach the parents presently attached to this John, remove his birth date and references to his baptism. If no one has any comments or objections, I propose to do this in the next weeks.
This profile appears to be a conflation of two different John Robinsons. One, a son of Thomas Richardson, was born in 1596 as this profile shows, but it was a different man apparently that married Elizabeth Frye and was in Massachusetts in 1644.

Charles E. Banks shows a John Richardson from Stepney (Ratcliffe) Parish, being in Woburn by 1644, identified with a former wife, Elizabeth Frier who evidently remained in England. I see no sources tying that John to these parents. The parish in the Banks source is about 30 miles away from Westmill, making it even less certain the two John Richardsons are the same person.

Is there a source that ties him to his parents?

Are there any sources that show his death date/place? Anderson does not show a John Robinson in the earliest days of New England

Richardson-7453 and Richardson-1612 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents; same birthdate; same birth place; same death place.
