George was born in Medway, Massachusetts, the son of Howard and Mary Richardson. In 1850, the family was living in Franklin, Mass, where 10 year old George was one of 9 children.[1]
George enlisted to serve in the Civil War as a 19 year old shoemaker from Bellingham, Mass. He mustered in as a Private in Company I of the 18th Massachusetts Infantry on August 20, 1862. He was discharged January 23, 1863, to renlisted in the Regular Army and the following day mustered into Company K of the 1st US Cavalry. He deserted the regiment on April 27, 1863.[2]
He died at the Chelsea Soldiers' Home in Chelsea, Mass., where he was a patient for 29 days.[3] His death record describes him as a fireman and resident of Attleboro, Mass; he was unmarried. He is buried at the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden, Mass.[4]
