Biography

Sarah was born in 1865^[1] in Wistow, Yorkshire, England. She lived with her parents, Alfred Richardson and Ann Goulton, in Eastrington, Yorkshire, in 1871.^[2] The family had returned to Wistow by 1881, when Matilda was a milliner's apprentice.^[3]

In 1884 Sarah married John Featherstone in Brayton, Yorkshire.^[4][5] John was a railway servant. The family lived in Moss, Yorkshire, in 1891;^[6] by 1901 they had returned to John's home parish of Burn, Yorkshire.^[7] The Featherstone family lived in Brayton in 1911.^[8]
