I absolutely do still want to be involved in the 1776 project. Sorry about not responding to your previous message I was undergoing cancer treatment but I'm back! I was very active before and have contributed quite a bit, I would say, to the profiles of the project and was awarded a badge for those contributions a few months ago. So is there a direct link to the 1776 project I can't seem to find it? Everything has changed and it's just difficult to navigate now. It used to be so easy to find what you needed. Super confusing. I think I was looking for stickers last time. Has that changed too? Thank you. Eileen

I wanted to update you with my activities in the Southern_Colonies project. Just completed April Connect-a-Thon with group Southern Sweepers. Added between 40 and 50 new profiles for North Carolina in the late 1600s to early 1800s. Updated existing profiles to some extent, connected new profiles to existing profiles for parents/children/spouses, and proposed merge for at least one pair of existing duplicate profiles. What fun!

Hi Mary,

(Copying you on this so you won't feel left out! I think I know your answer. Thank you for ALL you do!)

It's time for a 1776 Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know if you want to continue as a member of the project. We'd like to know:

  • If you are on the right team or if you'd like to make a change. It's a requirement that every 1776 Project member is a part of one of the project's teams, so if you're not assigned to a team, let us know which team you'd like to join.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what changes you'd like to see us make?

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the 1776 Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back.

Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Dear Mary,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. Please review the following and let us know if you are content where we have placed you or would like to be more involved.

We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team who guide new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team. You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team Level 1, working on profiles from your own watchlist and whatever else you find. Biography Teams Levels 2 and 3 will work on designated profiles for notables (Level 3) and everyday people (Level 2). Please let us know if you would like to help with another Team.

You joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018. We would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you would like to work at a higher level on the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile ‘’’from your own watchlist’’’ that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If your profile is at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.

We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (When you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID). Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements. You will find more information on the GoogleGroup.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:

Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.

We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.

Hi Mary

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders

Hello Mary, Thanks for the welcoming. My father started our family tree back in the 70's and I took it over some 30 years ago and with the help of the internet I've expanded it to over 800 ancestors, So I'm the new kid on the block and need help! How does one find instructions? How do I merge and do I need permission to add to an established ancestor. I found a case that needs correction as the author has the father as the son. Both have the same name "Solomon Leete" they are my 4th and 5th ggrandfathers.

Hi Mary, My reason for this note; I have writings I would like to add to my home county of Stephens Texas but I have never had experience using this kind of profile. Would appreciate finding out where I can get instructions for same. Also, there were many Richardsons in that county in the 1800’s and later. Third thing is, I did a check just for fun and find to my surprise that we are 11th cousins.....I am always glad to meet another. This is through a mutual grgrandmother. Regards, Lula Tuttle Sinnott

I would like to have a category for Washington's flying Camp. In the American Revolutionary War, the Flying Camp was a military formation employed by the Americans in the second half of 1776. After the British evacuation of Boston in March 1776, General George Washington met with members of the Continental Congress to determine future military strategy. Faced with defending a huge amount of territory from potential British operations, Washington recommended forming a “flying camp”, which in the military terminology of the day referred to a mobile, strategic reserve of troops. Congress agreed and on June 3, 1776, passed a resolution “that a flying camp be immediately established in the middle colonies and that it consists of 10,000 men ….” The men recruited for the Flying Camp were to be militiamen from three colonies: 6000 from Pennsylvania, 3400 from Maryland, and 600 from Delaware. They were to serve until December 1, 1776, unless discharged sooner by Congress, and to be paid and fed in the same manner as regular soldiers of the Continental Army. The Flying Camp was an early and short-lived experiment with the concept of Extra Continental regiments, a “national” rather than a “confederate” force, which was to be distinct as having formed without any administrative connection to any individual state.

Checking in as requested... I have been active, working on the Alexander Younger extended family of Virginia and North Carolina. The work is far from complete, and has required merges, sourcing, writing of bios, requesting project management, and untangling tangles. The resources and help pages of the project have been a boon! I am currently on the Virginia and North Carolina teams, but not working on any specific area of either. I would like to remain a project member if possible. L

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?

This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.
