Biography

Confederate Veteran
Sergeant Edgar Richardson served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: 1861

Edgar "Bonner", b. 1838, lived in Watkinsville, Clarke, Georgia.

He had many brothers: James J enlisted in the 11th Infantry. Brother David R enlisted in 44th Infantry. Edgar and brother to Robert Billups Richardson enlisted as privates in Troup Light Artillery in the CIVIL WAR, Apr 24,1861.

Edgar was appointed Corporal June 20, 1862. In 1864, appointed Sgt. to serve remainder of the war. Troup Artillery (Cobb Legion Artillery) Edgar was stunned by the explosion of a shell July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg. When he recovered he remained in the War in Troup Light Artillery and served entire war.

After the war Civil war military data reflects Edgar "Bonner" lived in Corpus Christi, Texas where his brother, James J lived, however U.S. Federal censuses have not been found for this.

Death: Edgar lived in Texas in 1890 where he passed away. He was buried in the Watkinsville City Cemetery, Clarke Co., Georgia, USA next to E.C. Thomas.

Troup Light Artillery, was part of Cobb's Georgia Legion which was composed of cavalry, infantry, and artillery, containing Six companies, serving in H. C. Cabell's Battalion of Artillery, Army of Northern Virginia. Conflicts from the Seven Day's Battles to Cold Harbor, endured the long siege of Petersburg, and ended the war at Appomattox. The company sustained 9 casualties at Sharpsburg, 11 at Chancellorsville, and 7 at Gettysburg. Only 7 men surrendered in April, 1865. It was commanded by Captains H. H. Carlton and M. Stanley.
Cobb's infantry battalion included men from Stephens, Lamar, Burke, Clarke, and Carroll counties. It contained seven companies and in April, 1862, had a force of 594 effectives. The battalion served under Generals H. Cobb, T.R.R. Cobb, Wofford, and DuBose. It fought with the Army of Northern Virginia from the Seven Days' Battles to Gettysburg. The unit took an active part in the battles of The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor, moved with Early to the Shenandoah Valley, and saw action in the Appomattox Campaign. Its casualties were twenty-seven percent of the 248 at Crampton's Gap, 22 killed and 135 wounded at Chancellorsville, and about 10% of 213 at Gettysburg disabled. Many were captured at Sayler's Creek ( 1 officer and 55 men surrendered.
