Biography

William Richey that married a Elizabeth Martin in ca1807. This information was found in the 7500 Marriages from the 96th and the Abbeville District, SC 1774-1890, compiled by Larry E. Pursley, Copy write 1980. Page 161.

William Richey was married twice. His first wife, and the mother of the following children, was believed to be an unidentified Elizabeth Martin: (See notes under "First wife -Believe to be Elizabeth Martin")
1) Mary Ann "Anny") Richey (Married Thomas Hawthorne-son of Davis Hazlep Hathorn/Hawthorn) 2) Jane Cowan Richey (Married a John Dunn) 3) Robert Caldwell Richey -------------------------------------------- What makes this search so difficult is that this William's uncle, William A. Richey, was first married to with Jane Stone and they had ten children . Upon Jane's death this uncle William married a Elizabeth Martin who was some 53 years old and is reported to have never been married or given birth to any children. This Elizabeth was the daughter of John & Sarah Dunn Martin and may well have been confused with the Elizabeth Martin that married a William Richey in 1807. From the notes above we know that a William Richey married a Elizabeth Martin in 1807, however, I have not been able to identify which William Richey, or the family of the Elizabeth that married him. --------------------------------------------- I do not know the order in which these children were born, however, I do know that "Anny" was born on 11/18/1812 and that she and her sister Jane were married while the other two children were still considered minors.
Elizabeth (Betsy) Cowan became William's second wife. (Some researchers have listed this marriage to William as her second marriage and her first being to a Joseph Lyons, however, according to the following copy of William's Will (and the note that was added) it is fairly clear that Betsy's marriage to William was her first and her second was to Joseph Lyons. Elizabeth and Williams two children were:
4) Isaac Cowan Richey 5) Elizabeth Dorilla Richey 6) Margaret D. Richey -------------------------------------------------------------------

(*1) The William listed here is the son of Robert J. Richey. These could have been the same marriages. I have guessed that the William listed here married first in about 1811 and I based this on the birth date of his first child.
(*2) This is William, son of Robert J. Richey. This Elizabeth Cowan is the daughter of Col. Isaac Cowan and was William's second wife.
(*3) This William A. Richey, Sr. is the brother of Robert J. Richey (marriage info listed in this dBase)
(*4) This William A. Richey, Jr. and the son of William A. Richey, Sr. (marriage info listed in this dBase)
(*5) Marriage info listed in this dBase.
(*6) This appears to be a double entry, I believe that the William H. entry to be incorrect and should be William J. (Johnson) Richey.
(*7) This William is the son of Robert and Elizabeth Richey please see marriage info listed in the dBase.
(*8) This is William Rasor Richey who was the son of Isaac Cowan Richey and the grandson of my William.
