John was the oldest of five children of Ralph and Sarah Worslev Richmond.[1] He lived with his parents and grandparents[2], until his parents moved to Peru, Maine before he was 11 years old.[3]
He married Ethel Flanders when he was about 21 years old.[4]By 1930, he was lodging in August, Maine, working as a truck driver for a bakery. He is identified as married, but his wife is not listed in the same lodging.[5] John married Louise Morgan in 1934.[6]
In 1940, he was working as a printing operator in Hallowell City, Maine. [7]
