Biography

William Richter is believed to have been born in Pennsylvania, United States about 1780.

Circa 1821, William RIchter married Babara Ann Ringer in Elk Lick Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania, United States. No marriage record has been found for the couple.

William and Barabra Richter had the following known children;

  2. Dolly
  3. Margaret (1826 - unk)
  4. Harriett (1829 - aft. 1880)
  5. Jacob (1832 - 1913)
  6. William (1834 - unk)
  7. Elizabeth (1836-1893)
  8. John (1838-1914)
  9. Henry (1840 - 1931)
  10. Christina Ann (1841 - 1911)
  11. Hiram (1845 - 1930)
  12. Esther (1847 - unk)

Note: Although we know the names of all his children living at the time of his last will and testament, the birth order is unknown until we can find birth years for Nancy and Dolly. The remaining children are listed in their known birth order.

Will was probated on March 2nd 1849 placing his death sometime after 12 Feb 1849. He had 12 children 5 Sons and 7 daughters all of whom he names in his will.

The last will and testament of William RIchter of the township of Youghiony in the county of Fayette. [1]

I William Richter considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound mind and memory (Blessed be Almighty God for the same) Do make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner and form following (hat is to say) first I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Babrbary Richter, all my real and personal estate, to be under her control so long as she survives or remains my widow. I mean she is to keep my children together, and raise them till of age, if so she survives or remains my widow - till they if not I will that my eldest son Jacob, or thee then surviving eldest son take her place, and raise the family till of age, and when the youngest child is of age, and not till then.

I will that the farm be sold, and be equally divided among my five sons, Jacob, William, John, Henry, Hiram share and share alike (to say**), and lastly as to all my good chattels household furniture as then shall remain be sold and equally divided among all my children sons and daughters, Jacob, William, John, Henry, Hiram, Nancy, Dolly, Margaret, Harriett, Elizabeth, Christina, Esther, share and share alike.

I hereby appoint my beloved wife Babary Richter sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me maid. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal twelfth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine.
