Biography

Samuel was born 26 Sep 1724 in Plympton to Henry and Elce Oldham Rickard.[1][2] He married first, Sarah Joscelyn of Middleborough on March 30, 1746. [3] They had one daughter before Sarah died on April 11, 1747.[4]

Samuel married second Zerviah Bumpas at Middleborough on November 8, 1749[5] and they had at least 11 children together.[2]

He died on February 12, 1784 according to his grave marker.

His will was proved March 1, 1784. He names wife Zerviah, four sons and six daughters (Daughter Sarah and son Jacob probably died before the will was made.)[2][6]

His inventory was taken on 8 March 1784 in Middleborough. In 1793, an account of his estate by Samuel Rickard was recorded which included debts paid, necessaries to the family, and administration fees.[7]

Notes

As early as 1637, and perhaps before Gyles Rickard was a Resident of Plymouth, and freeman of the town. He married first Judeth//and second Jean Tilson. His son Giles, married Hannah Dunham, daughter, (perhaps) of John Dunham. October 31st, 1651 he "is fined 10 shillings for selling syder to the Indians." In 1677 Gyles Rickard, of Plymouth, is listed as one of the 40 or 60 owners of original lots in Middleboro. John Rickard, son of Giles, married Esther Barnes in 1651, and had several children. Among the descendents of Gyles Rickard was Samuel Rickard.
