Thomas was born in 1784. He is the son of Thomas Rickard and Mary Roe. [1]
Only two documents have been found, relating to Thomas: the Grandborough parish church register and the 1841 census for Grandborough.
From the census we learn that in 1841 Thomas Rickard, a bricklayer aged 55, was living in Church St, Grandborough, with Elizabeth Rickard (55) and Mary Rickard (83), and all were born in Buckinghamshire. From this we may deduce that Elizabeth was his wife, and Mary his mother. None of them appears in later censuses.
From the register we learn that all three had died and were buried at Grandborough: Mary at the age of 86, buried on 29 Aug 1843; Thomas aged 59, buried on 21 Sep 1843; and Elizabeth less than four years later, buried on 18 Mar 1847, aged 64.
Thomas's elder sister, Sarah, was born in Whitchurch, and all seven of his younger siblings were baptised at Grandborough. It is likely, therefore, that Thomas was born at Whitchurch shortly before the family moved to Grandborough. Tony Pope
