Louisa A. Kibler, b. 1833 (m1. James Yates, m2. Samuel B. Good, m3. William A. Johnson)
House Fire
On a cold night in February 1848, the Kibler home caught fire and burned down. The Kibler family made a narrow escape. A book on the life of Dr. H. Benjamin Kibler (son of Martin) states:
"The fire began in a central closet and extended first to the middle doors, thus preventing the escape of the family. The flames had kindled upon their beds ere they were admonished of their danger. Benjamin's bed was partly consumed when the scorching flames admonished him to flee, which he attempted to do through the door, but found it was well nigh consumed, and a thick volley of smoke and fire warded that point of escape; he was, therefore, forced to dash himself hastily out of a window."[3]
After the family made it outside, they realized not everyone was accounted for - a grandson who was visiting the family was still in the house. An enslaved woman belonging to the Kiblers ran back inside and rescued him from the fire.[3]
