32.John Rickard88,89,90,91,92,93, born Abt. 1751 in Pennsylvania orGermany; died Abt. 1841 in Davidson Co., NC.He was the son of 64. Jacob Reichert and 65. Maria Elizabetha Happes. He married 33. Phoebe Winkler Abt. 1779 in Rowan Co., N.C.. 33.Phoebe Winkler94,95, born 1764 in Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania95; died 1855 in Davidson, NC, USA95.She was the daughter of 66. Ludwig Winkler and 67. Christina (Catherine) Deitz. Notes for John Rickard: John was a small boy when his father made the trek down the Great Wilderness road, to a spot on Abbott's Creek in the Yadkin River Valley of Rowan County, North Carolina. When the Revolutionary War broke out he was 21, old enough to be drafted in 1779 to serve in the North Carolina Militia. He first served in Capt. Byers's Company, Col. Fifer's Regiment. He served a second term of service that same year with Capt. Shakey's Company, Col. Locke's regiment. John petitioned for, and was granted, a pension of $20 per annum in 1832. He made his will in 1838 and died in 1841.His heirs were his wife, Phoebe; a daughter also named Phoebe; Margaret, who married Peter Frank; Mary, who married Frederick Beck; and Elizabeth, who married Jacob Young (and they moved to Pike Co., IN).The male heirs were Jacob, George, John Jr. and Peter. The estate was settled in 1856 with Peter, Noah (believed to be John's son), Jacob, Isabel (unmarried daughter of Phoebe), Mary (Rickard) Beck's heirs, Margaret (Rickard) Frank, George, and Elizabeth (Rickard) Young. Notes for Phoebe Winkler: Judging by the various censuses, beginning with 1790, John's household was filled with many children.According to the North Carolina census for 1790, three of the children of John's brother Jacob were residing in John's household.Their mother, Mary, had apparently died that year, and they came to reside with theiruncle. They were still living in the household at the time of the 1800 census, although Jacob had remarried and started a new family. Upon the death of John's brother Casper in 1805, and Casper's wife in 1808, Casper's two young children came to live in John's household. It would thus seem that John became the patriarch of the family in North Carolina beginning in the 1790's. John and Phoebe had eight children of their own.
