Biography

Born Sep 1790. in Virginia, USA.

Mary Elizabeth [1] was born around 1790. She might have been born to Adam Rickard, but I don't have sources to prove this.

She married Joseph Yeager in 1812. [2]

According to the 1820 Census Joseph and Mary had five children over the next years: 3 boys and 2 girls, one of them is Elizabeth Yeager born about 1816.

Note: The names behind the birthyears of the following years 1820,1830, 1840 are only guesses! To make it easier to compare later records.

1820 Mary's husband Joseph is listed in Mason County, Virginia. [3]

  • born 1820-1810: 3 males (???), 2 females (???)
  • born 1810-1804: 0

  • born 1794-1775: 1 male (Joseph Yaeger *Jan. 1790), 1 female (Mary Yaeger *Sep. 1790)

Joseph and Mary have three more boys in the 1820s, one of them is Lorenzo Dow Yeager born on 15 Aug 1827. One of their oldest sons already left home or died before 1830.

1830 Joseph is still listed in Mason County, Virginia. [4]

  • born 1830-1825: 2 males (Lorenzo *Aug. 1827 and Albert *1829)
  • born 1825-1820: 1 male (???)

  • born 1790-1780: 1 male (Joseph Yaeger *Jan. 1790), 1 female (Elizabeth)

Joseph and Mary have four more children in the 1830s. The two other oldest sons also left home or die before 1840.

1840 Joseph still listed in Mason County, Virginia. [5] There is a John and a Joseph Jr. Yeager listed close by, maybe two of the sons that left home already.

  • born 1840-1835: 1 female (Ann E. *1837)
  • born 1835-1830: 1 male (???), 2 females (??? and Emaline *1834)
  • born 1830-1825: 2 males (Lorenzo *Aug. 1827 and Albert *1829)

  • born 1800-1790: 1 female (Mary *Sep. 1790)
  • born 1790-1780: 1 male (Joseph *Jan. 1790)

Mary's son Lorenzo marries Margaret Ann Riffle on 20 Apr 1854. [6] They move to Iowa and have four children together.

24 Aug 1850 Mary and Joseph are still listed in Mason County, Virginia. [7] I am not sure about all the children listed living with them, the youngest ones seem to be to young to be theirs. I assume Henry and James to be grandchildren.

  • Yeager, Joseph (61 years, female?, 2500$ real estate, born in Pennsylvania)
  • Yeager, Mary (60 years, female, born in Virginia, can't read and write)
  • Yeager, Albert (21 years, male, laborer, born in Virginia)
  • Yeager, Emaline (15 years, female, born in Virginia)
  • Yeager, Ann E. (13 years, female, born in Virginia, attends school)
  • Cunningham Henry (9 years, male, born in Virginia, attends school)
  • Yeager James W. (1 year, male, born in Virginia)
  • Maliby Charles (56 years, male, laborer, born in Pennsylvania)

Mary's husband Joseph dies of old age on 4 May 1860. [8] [9]

2 Jun 1860 I believe this to be Mary living with two grandchildren in West Columbia, Mason County, Virgina. [10] I assume William is James W. from the 1850 Census.

  • Yeager Mary (71 years, female, 1000$ real estate, born in Virginia)
  • Yeager Catherine (17 years, female, born in Virginia, attends school)

According to her gravestone Mary died on 25 JUL 1864 and she is burried at the Somerville Cemetery in Mason County, West Virginia, USA." [11]
