Military service. Jacob Rickard during the Revolutionary War he furnished supplies to the Continental Army. [1]

An examination of the deeds in the disposition of this land shows that on Oct. 11, 1765, Frederick Goss sold to Jacob Rickard, his father in law, 230 acres--"a part of the tract of land granted by Henry McCulloh, Esq., to Frederick Goss on Feb. 1, 1761." Under the terms of his will on Jan. 31, 1804, Frederick Goss left the remainder of this land to his widow, Isabella, "and after her death" to his son, Daniel Goss.[2]

Tax lists. Jacob appears in several.[3] His Will reads:

In the name of God Amen--the ninth day of November one thousand seven hundred & ninety-five I JACOB RICKARD of the county of Rowan & State of NC, being sick and weak in body but perfict mind and memory thanks be given to God; Therefore calling to min the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for al men once to die--do make and ordain this my last wil and testament--that it is to say pricipally and first of all I gave it, and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried ina christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executors; and as touching such wordly estate as it hath been please God to bless to beless me with in this life; I give devise and dispose of in the manner and form following--

In premis, I give and bequeath to my two sons JOHN RICKARD and CASPAR RICKARD whom Ilikewise constitute make and ordain executors of this my last will and testament, all and sigular my lands and tenements by them freely to be possessed.
To my son JOHN RICKARD I give or devise he should have a certain piece or parcel of land as follows, containing tirty acres lying and being on the south side of a certain line beginning at a hickory mentioned in my deed and running east about two hundred poles to the creek; and further I give or desire he should hav adjoing this said line up the creek as it meanders fourteen poles thence west to teh top of the hill across the branch to the old millroad thence northwest (tho not crossing the branch) to the old original line.
And further I desire my son CASPER RICKARD should have all the remaining part of my lands lying out of these said boundreis, and further I desire that my lands should be valued at one hundred pounds and that said lands should be surveyed and that my two sons JOHN RICKARD and CASPER RICKARD who shall possess these lands shall pay a proportional part according to the quantity of land they receive agreeable to the above mentioned boundry to be kept of my children as follows----------Large Bible I desire shall to--------(not readable).
Item--I give and bequeath all my movable property that has not been mentioned together with my still to my children Azebel (Isabella?)GOSS, JACOB RICKARD, JOHN RICKARD< MARY SMITH, CATHERINE BURKETT, CASPER RICKARD and LEONARD RICKARD to be equally divided.
My Will and desire is that the before mentioned sum of money which is to be paid by my two sons namely JOHN RICKARD and CASPER RICKARD to rest of my estate as before mentioned shall not be demanded or recoverable during th term of five years after my decease. As witness my hand and seal this day and year above written.
