Biography

Daniel Standlake married by about 1633 Joanna _____. She married (2) 10 November 1639 Thomas Pinson.[1]

They had 3 children: Joan, Richard, & another daughter.

The passenger list states that Daniel sailed for New England with a family. One member of this family must have been his wife Joanna, who, as "Joane Stanley," married in 1639 Thomas Pinson. We conclude that this was Daniel's widow because of a number of later associations between the Standlake and Pinson families. In his will of 14 November 1648, "Thomas Rickard of Settuaat," who had been present when Daniel Standlake made his nuncupative will, included consecutive bequests to "Thomas Pincin," to "Joane the wife of the aforesaid Thomas Pincin," to "Joane Stanlacke," to "Richard Stanlacke," and to "Thomas Pincin and Hanna Pincin the children of the aforesaid Thomas Pincin." On 16 November 1671, "[w]hereas some difference hath arisen between Thomas Pincen Senior and Richard Standlack both of Scituate concerning one lot of marsh containing seventeen acres more or less now in the occupation of the aforesaid Thomas Pinson, I the aforesaid Thomas Pinson being unwilling to contest with any do by these presents freely and willingly surrender the aforesaid seventeen acres of marsh unto the aforesaid Richard Standlack."

When Richard Standlake died, one of the appraisers of his estate on 25 June 1691 was "Thomas Pincin." In further support of the identification of the wife of Thomas Pinson as the widow of Daniel Standlake, note that Richard Standlake named his first child Joanna.

Joanna was born about 1610.

Research Notes

  • In the Great Migration Directory, p 317 as Stanley, Joan: Unknown; 1639; Plymouth [PCR 1:134]. (She married Thomas Pinson.)
  • I removed Scituate, Plymouth Colony as Joane's place of birth, because 1612 is too early for this birthplace. Mauger-110 14:53, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

Joann could not have been born in 1612 in Plymouth if she married Daniel Standlake in 1633 in England before traveling to Plymouth.

Rickard-1161 and Rickard-916 appear to represent the same person because: Dates are a little different, but both have the same husbands.
