Damon Woodrow Rickard, Jr.
RICKARD, Jr. Damon Woodrow – Age 53, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away on January 14, 1998 at his home, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on August 12, 1944 in Olympia, Washington to Damon Woodrow Rickard Sr. and Beth (Rice) Rickard. Damon grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He was recommended to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, by the late Senator Everett Dirksen. He graduated from the Air Force Academy and served in the Air Force. Damon and his squadron recently celebrated their 30th reunion. In 1968 Damon moved to California where he met and married his loving wife Patricia Ann “Trish” Phelps. They moved to Santa Barbara where their son Tobias Hudson was born. While in Santa Barbara Damon helped direct the nation's first community ecology center. The Rickards moved to Camas Valley in 1972 where Damon was a much loved and respected community member. He was an active member of the volunteer fire department and the school budget committee. Damon loved to garden and he enjoyed life. For 25 years he was a valued employee of Roseburg Forest Products. Damon is survived by his wife Trish and son Toby; a brother Rick, father Damon Sr. and numerous other relatives. There will be a celebration of Damon's life on Sunday, January 18 a 1 p.m. at the Evergreen Grange, 5361 SW Grange Rd, Roseburg (Green district). Please bring a dish to share. Music will be provided by all attending. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Camas Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He was at peace with his God, and we want all whose lives were touched by his spirit to know that you all bless our souls.
