MEMORIAL PHOTOS 1 FLOWERS 2 LETTER: Written by Benjamin R. Ricketts, Charleston, Illinois, March the 15, 1867 to son Edward Ricketts. My dear sun Edward. It has bin sumtime sence I wrote to you. I would be glad to see you but it may never be in this life but try to meet me in heaven above to sing the praises of God and the lamb for ever. Oh Edward, your dear mother is gone the way of all the earth. She departed this life October the 8th, 1865. She had the dropsey. Oh I had so much truble sence you lefte me but my health is good at this time. I can work yet. I am triant (trying) to do my own cooking. Joshua live with me. He is not married. He has pore health. I live on a small pease of land. Melvina is married to a man by the name of Samuel Jarvis. He lives close to me. They are all well. They have one are a girl. James went to the war and died. His wife died and left no reveiving aires (heirs). Mary Ellen lives in Missoury. They have 7 children a living. This is a good part of the world heare. Illinois it is very level but very muddy and cold winters but they can raise all kindes of grain. Market is good wheat two dollars per bushel, corn fiftey cents pr bushel, baken (bacon) fifteen cents pr pound. So I remaind your father til death sun (son.). Farewell for this time. Benjamin Ricketts, Joshua Ricketts, Melvina Jarvis.
Note: The girl of Samuel Jarvis & Melvina Ricketts Jarvis is Mary Susan Jarvis also buried in this cemetery.
