Fort Rickey (3 miles West of Rome, NY) was named after Capt John Rickey of Col Peter Schuyler's New Jersey Regiment of Colonial Militia. It was built during July & Dec 1759 as an outpost of Ft Stanwix at Wood Creek and Canada Creek junctions during the French and Indian War. It was a T-shaped fort of 80 ft by 30 ft in its main section, housing 50 troops to defend a strategic carry point. This centuries old strategic portage place in up-state NY was used by the Iroquois Nation confederacy to bridge the waterways between the Atlantic Ocean (Hudson & Mohawk Rivers) and the Great Lakes (Wood Creek, Oneida Lake and Oswego River). Ft Rickey was abandoned and in ruins by 1776. Today the site is occupied by the Ft Rickey Children's Discovery Zoo.

John was born about 1725. He is the son of Brice Rickey.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Rickey-334 and Rickey-187 appear to represent the same person because: both are the father of John
posted by [Living Emmons]
Some of the biographical and source material recently entered on this profile (rickey-187) seems to be about my 6g grandfather, John Riky (Riky-3), even though they are clearly not the same person. (The parents of rickey-187 were Brice and Marcy while the parents of riky-3 were Israel and Jane or Jean.

the spouse of rickey-187 was Mary while the spouse of riky-3 was Ariantje. The child of rickey187 was John Jacob while the children of riky-3 were Brice, Israel, Jacob, Samuel and Eleanor.) It needs to be revised. Thomas E. Ricky (ricky-7)
