Based on the available documentation: "Who Is Rebecca?"
Rebecca is mentioned in Thomas Rickman's will of 1761 as a child with four other children (doesn't say son or daughter). They have no last name. Thomas Rickman does mention his relationship with the other parties named in his will. Edward Kirksey sells his property to Isaac Kirksey but does not say Isaac is his son. A wife does not release or acknowledge her dower rights in that property transfer. Edward leaves no will. He just disappears in 1768 after the property transfer. Then in 1799 John Rickman (named in his father's will) makes a statement that is recorded in Chatham Co. that he has not received any of the property of Rebecca Rickman. Then the 1800 power of attorney lists the heirs of Rebecca Rickman. It does not she is their mother, sister or whatever.

I still ponder the Rickman-Kirksey connection. Thomas' will is a puzzle for me. I hope to go to Halifax Co. VA this summer and do research at LVA to see if I can uncover information. Thomas was not in North or South Carolina but the Kirkseys were. How do they connect? Was Greenwood SC once in NC? Angie
