John Carre Riddell was an Australian pastoralist and politician.
He was born on 4 June 1809 at Linthill, Roxburghshire, Scotland. He was the third son of Thomas Riddell, of Camieston, Roxburghshire, and his wife Jane Ferrier.
He and his cousin, Thomas Ferrier Hamilton, arrived in Sydney in the ship Abberton in August 1839.
He married Mary Anne Sibella Stephen on 22 October 1846 in Melbourne.[1] His cousin married her sister, Elizabeth Mary Milner Stephen.
he died at Elsternwick on 22 December 1879 and was buried in Gisborne.
