Egypt - Mrs. Russel Morton, aged a little over 72 years, after a long and painful illness, died on Thursday evening last; for the last month her sufferings were very great, but she bore it all with christian patience and finally died praying, surrounded by her friends and family. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon and was largely attended. The funeral cortege proceeded from her late residence to the Baldwin Church. Messrs. Archibald Riddell, Elijah Prosser, R. A. Riddell, James Anderson, Donald Riddell and Wm. Tomlinson officiated as pallbearers. Elder D. Prosser preached a very impressive funeral sermon, Elders Chidley and Clark also taking part in the services, after which the remains were laide to rest in the Church burying ground. Deceased was married almost fifty years and resided in this neighbourhood all the time. She leaves a family of five - one son and four daughters.

Baldwin Breezes - . . . Wildfire. A spark from the fire during sugar-making fired the dry leaves in Donald Riddel's grove and for a few short moments made an exciting bustle. When smoke cleared off Donald found himself minus considerable fence rails.
To commemorate the day, on the 21st, Donald Riddel drew a number of logs to mill on the sleighs. This also gave him an item for his diary, which he has kept for somewhat over twenty-four years.
