"Sir John Riddell, Baronet of Riddell, 1st son and heir; succeeded to the Baronetcy on his father's death; was M.P. [S] for Roxburghshire, 1690 till death. He, in 1687, got a remission for treason from James II. He married firstly, 1 December 1659, Agnes, sister of Walter, Earl of Tarras [S], 1st daughter of Sir Gideon Scott, of Highchester, by Margaret, daughter of Sir Thomas Hamilton of Preston. She died s.p. He married secondly, November 1651, Helen, daughter of Sir Alexander Morison, of Preston Grange, by Jean, daughter of Robert (Boyd) 6th Lord Boyd [S]. He married thirdly, October 1669, Margaret, daughter of Sir John Swinton of Swinton. She died at Edinburgh 4 and was buried 6 March 1699, in Greyfriars. He died at Edinburgh 1 April 1700."
