He served as a Corporal in Company G, 9th Regiment W. Va. Infantry Union Army during the Civil War; enlisting at Spencer, VA (now WV) August 14, 1862 and serving until his death.
He is buried in the Grafton National Cemetery, Grafton, Taylor County, WV.
