Biography

John was born about 1829. He was the son of Nathaniel Riddle and Rebecca Tatum. He passed away between 7 February and end of March 1859.

He married Elvira Henderson on 6 October 1858 art Madison, North Carolina.[1] [2]

In the Will of John W Riddle, County of Madison, North Carolina, dated 7 Feb 1859, he instructs his Executor to divide the proceeds from the sale of personal and real estate between his wife Elvira and brother[s] and sister[s]: Nancy Holcombe wife of John Holcome, Hiram B Riddle, Julia A Rector wife of Franklin Rector, James E Riddle, Polly S A Riddle, Matilda Riddle, and his father Nathaniel Riddle. Additionally, he left a 3 year old Sorrell filly to his father. He named his trusty friend, William C Clark, lawful Executor. Witnessed by James Ramsey and Reubin Rice. [3]

Probate of estate of John W Riddle, Madison County, North Carolina, 1859, names Dower Elvira Riddle, Hiram Riddle, Julia Rector wife of R F Rector, James Riddle, P S A Riddle. Elvira states that John W Riddle had no children. John Rector provided $200 bound as guardian to Elvira Riddle. Dates in file range from March 1859 thru January 1861. [4]
