Biography

Charles was born on 8 dec 1806 in Spartanburg co, South carolina and died on 1 Sept 1877 in Bonham, Fannin co, Texas. He is the son of John R. Ridings-(1774-1858) and Sarah Elizabeth Blackwell-(1776-1873).

C.C. Ridings settled in north of Bonham, Texas where he worked as a blacksmith. His wife was Jane Kennedy-(1815-1912), a native of North Carolina. They were married on 17 May 1836 in Gadsden, Cherokee, Alabama.

They had these children listed below;

Overton Lewis Riddings-(1837-1922), who married Mary Whisenhunt.

Henry Ridings-(1839-unknown),

Perry Pinkney Ridings-(1839-1902), who married Millia Davis.

Ruhama Clementine Ridings, Wright-(1841-1885), who married Ural Wright.

Marinda Adeline Ridings, Whisenhunt-(1843-1932),who married Andrew Whisenhunt.

Ethelred Polk "T.P" Ridings-(1845-1905), who married Rhody wright.

Alfred Lafayette Ridings-(1847-1940), who married Priscilla Wright.

Andrew Jackson Ridings-91850-1875),

George Renfro Ridings-(1852-1927), who married Tennie Meadow.

Newton Hugh "Newt" Ridings-(1854-1942), who married Eliza Boyd.

William A. Ridings-(1857-1870),

Stephen "decatur" Rainy Ridings-(1857-1919),who married Amanda Rowlet.

According to a book called, A History of Fannin County, Part 1, by Floy Crandall Hodge [1] The Ridings Community carried the family name of Ridings for their town!

The Ridings son Perry was one of the founders of the Corinth Baptist Church. His wife was Milla Davis and their children were Lafayette, Texis, Lillie, Charles, and Right.

Another son, Overton worked as a silversmith. His wife was Mary Whisenhunt.

Other children were Rumama Clem, who married Ural Wright; Marinda, who married Andrew Whisenhunt; T. P. who married Rhody Wright; Alfred, who married Priscilla Wright; George R., who married Tennie Meadow; Newton H. who married Eliza Boyd; S.D.R. who married Amanda Rowlet.
