Biography

Jean Baptiste Riel was born in Lanoraie, baptized on 10 June 1736 in St-Ours, son of Jean Baptiste Riel and of Marie Louise Frappier.[1]

Jean Baptiste Riel married Marie Angélique Baillargeon, daughter of Jean Baptiste Baillargeon and of the late Marie Jeanne Barrault, on 13 May 1765 in La Prairie. He is the cited resident of St-Philippe.[2][3]

12 known children to the couple, of which 6 are known to die young and 6 to marry.[4]

Jean Baptiste Riel died on 13 April 1795 and was buried on the 15th in St-Philippe (St-Jean-François-Régis), the record giving him around 63 years of age.[5]
