He passed away between 1871 and 1889. On the marriage certificate of Richard Rigby b:1849 and Mary Ellen Bowden, Richard Rigby deceased farmer is listed as the father. He was still alive in 1871.[3] A Richard Rigby born in 1798 died in Prestwich in 1874, which is within 20 miles of Leigh. It is likely that he was put into a Workhouse in Prestwich after his wife died. [4]
