Biography

Dude was born 24 May 1914 in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska, to Jack Riggen and Emma Schultz.

The family lived in Lincoln until about 1930. According to Dude, the family moved to California about 1930, probably how they were missed in the 1930 census. They ended up in San Luis Obispo California. Here he met Elaine Jespersen. They were married in San Francisco, California in a double ceremony with his brother Ray Riggen and her sister Eleanor Jespersen.

Dude and Elaine had two children, Wayne and a daughter. The couple lived in San Luis Obispo, California until their divorce. Dude had custody of the children. During WWII Dude and his brother drove trucks up and down California. They would drop the children off with their sister D'Arlene in San Francisco, drive for the week, and then pick them up at the end of the week. The cousins remember their time together.

Dude later married his half cousin, Marjorie Loos Payne. They raised their four children together.

Marjorie died in 1995. Dude died 23 Feb 2000 in San Luis Obispo, California.
