Elizabeth Browne Riggs was born in 1681 in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, the daughter of Joseph Riggs b. 1742 Milford, CT and Hanna Browne b. 1658 Milford, CT. The Riggs family moved to New Jersey before 1668.
The Dod family changed the spelling of their surname to Dodd sometime around 1725 in New Jersey. They lived in the area now known as East Orange, New Jersey (2 miles west of Newark) which became known as "Doddtown."
