Sara was baptised on 18 November 1645 at Ripponden, a chapelry of Elland, Yorkshire, the daughter of Henry Ryley of Stanenden (Stanningden).[1][2]
She died in 1664 and was buried on 23 September 1664 at Elland.[3] The following month, 7 October 1664, her lands were the subject of an inheritance transfer at the Manor Court in Wakefield, when "John Riley, uncle and next heir of Sarah Riley, deceased" inherited.[4] The detailed description of the lands and tenants corresponds with the description at the Manor Court in October 1651 after the death of her father Henry.[5]
There is another Sara Ryley daughter of Henry of Soyland baptised 3 September 1650. She was probably buried 24 January 1653/1654 and may have belonged to Henry Ryley of Clough. There is at least one other Henry Riley of Soyland having children at the same time as this Henry, as baptisms are too close together. Henry Ryley of Clough had an unnamed infant buried on 17 January 1647/1648, and there are other baptisms described as "of Henry Ryley of Soyland" which could cover both Clough and Stanningden.
The Riley family was prolific and used the same names in each generation. Sorting them out is a work in progress and will probably need sight of the original wills. This Sarah has been attached to Henry who died 1650 on the basis that they both owned exactly the same land, but alterations may be required if further information comes to light.
