Biography

Samuel was born in 1840. He was the son of David Rinehart and Rosanna Coyner. He passed away in 1913.

He enlisted on 2 Aug 1862 in Company G, 721st Volunteers, Rgmt in command of Col A. O. Miller - became a paret of the famous General Wilder's "Lightning Brigade," which were the first troops to use the new Spencer Rifle. On 25 May 1863, while out on scout duty and returning to his company, Samual was taken by mistake and shot. This wound left was cause of trouble throughout his life. He was discharged on 13 Aug 1863 and sent hom. But Samuel reenlisted on 1 Jan 1864 into Company I, 135th Indiana Volunteers - his final discharge came on 2 Sep 1864.
