Biography

Susanah was born in 1778 in Hagerstown, Maryland, the daughter of Thomas Rinehart and Eva Elizabeth (Weisshaar) Whitehair. Her family moved to the Aurora area in Monongalia County, Virginia (present day Preston County, West Virginia) in about 1790. She married Peter Swisher (III) in 1801 at age 22. They settled to farm in Hackers Creek in Lewis County, Virginia (now WV) and had sixteen (to confirm!!) children together. Her husband died in 1830. In 1850, she was living with her daughter Charlotte's family in Harrison County, Virginia. Susannah lived to be 78, passing away in 1856. She and her husband are buried together in Harmony Cemetery in Jane Lew, WV.
