Per The South Carolina Historical Magazine, Volume 4, birthdate is September 19, 1861. On November 24, 1897 as Frances Elliott Ringgold, she married John Nisbet Smith in Wilmington, Delaware. There is a second marriage record as on September 11, 1899 as Frances E. Ringgold, she married John Nisbet Smith in the District of Columbia.

The Washington Post Thursday, April 26, 1928 Smith. Suddenly on Wednesday, April 25, 1928 at her residence, The Cairo Apartment, Frances Ringgold Smith. Funeral service at the W.W. Chambers Co. Funeral Home, Fourteenth and Chapin Streets Northwest on Saturday, April 28 at 2:30PM. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
